Japan Box Office: Doraemon’s 43rd Anime Feature Film Makes No.1 Debut

The latest installment of the Doraemon franchise, “Doraemon: Nobita’s Earth Symphony,” has debuted at number one in Japan’s weekend box office ranking. The film, which was released in 382 theaters across the country, earned 656 million yen (4.37 million USD) on 538,000 admissions during its first three-day run. This is equivalent to the revenue of the previous film, “Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia,” which was released in March 2023.

Meanwhile, the anime film “Haikyu!! FINAL” has fallen to second place in its third weekend, earning 525 million yen (3.49 million USD) on 380,000 admissions. The film has now crossed the 5 billion yen mark (33.9 million USD) in total domestic revenue.

Other films in the top 10 include “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM,” which has been on the chart for six weeks and has earned 5.1 billion yen (33.9 million USD) on 3.59 million admissions. “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training-” has dropped four positions to seventh, while the live-action film adaptation of “Golden Kamuy” has fallen two places to eighth in its seventh weekend.

Finally, the new anime film “given The Movie: Hiiragi Mix” has disappeared from the mini-theater ranking after staying at number one for five consecutive weekends. The second part of the film, titled “Umi e (To the Sea),” is set to release in fall 2024.

Overall, it’s been a successful weekend for anime films in Japan, with several titles earning notable revenue and rankings on the box office chart.
