HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle Anime Film Slams Past 6 Billion Yen in Japan
HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, the first film in the Haikyu!! FINAL duology, has reached a significant milestone at the Japanese box office. As of March 10, the sports anime film has grossed 6.2 billion yen (approximately US$41.44 million) on the back of 4.38 million tickets sold. This makes it the highest-grossing film of the year in Japan, with the Forger’s still in theaters. Toho Animation is producing the two Haikyu!! FINAL anime films, with Production I.G. continuing to handle the animation. The team includes Susumu Mitsunaka as director and screenwriter, Takahiro Kishida as character designer, and Takahiro Chiba as chief animation director. The first film, HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, was released in Japan on February 16, 2024, with no date announced for the second film. Haikyu!! ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 20, 2012, to July 20, 2020, and all chapters are available in English on the Shonen Jump app. Crunchyroll is streaming all four TV anime seasons of the Haikyu!! adaptation.
