Kaiju No. 8 Anime Introduces Protagonist Kafka Hibino in New Character Video

Kaiju No. 8, the upcoming TV anime based on the popular manga series by Naoya Matsumoto, has released a new character visual and trailer featuring the protagonist, Kafka Hibino. The anime is set to premiere in Japan on April 13, 2024, and will also stream on Crunchyroll as part of their spring 2024 anime simulcast lineup.

The character visual shows Kafka Hibino, a young man with a slender build and spiky black hair, wearing a black and red jumpsuit with the number 8 emblazoned on his chest. The trailer focuses on Kafka’s backstory and his transformation into the Kaiju No. 8, highlighting his determination to protect the world from giant monsters.

The anime is directed by Shigeyuki Miya at Production I.G., with series composition and scripts by Ichiro Okouchi, character designs and chief animation direction by Tetsuya Nishio, kaiju design by Mahiro Maeda, art direction by Shinji Kimura, and music by Yuta Bandoh. The English language version of the manga is published by Viz Media.

Crunchyroll describes Kaiju No. 8 as a “heart-pumping, action-packed series” that follows the story of Kafka Hibino, who becomes the Kaiju No. 8 after being attacked by a giant monster. With the fate of the world on his shoulders, Kafka must fight against the kaiju and uncover the truth behind their appearances.
